NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?


Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
