Net Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to make it to the last poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While competing in internet poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I think television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The best poker players anywhere in the world may be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen wagering on internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in high stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in cash rounds?
