Internet Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the closing game in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He won a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best bettors in the world. While gambling on internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He often competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world could be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found participating in internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes omaha hi-low and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
