Web High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve final poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best bettors anywhere in the world. While betting on internet poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amt.. I think tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be found participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in big stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in money games?
