No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

[ English ]

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor in the world by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from others kill his goal of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
