Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
